Prerequisites:
To participate in this workshop, an attendee will need to:

1. Have a laptop computer with SPSS version 22 or later on it.
2. Have a minimal knowledge of research design and statistics; this workshop will present the basics of research designs, as well as, descriptive and inferential statistical procedures that compare group mean differences.
3. Participants are not required to have knowledge of SPSS to participate. Individuals who have SAS or other statistical software can participate but would need a basic knowledge of their statistical software.

*Please note: in order for the workshop to begin on time and cover all material as described, participants are expected to arrive at the workshop with all software and supplemental materials pre-loaded on to their laptops.

Description:
This interactive workshop will include a broad overview of basic research designs and statistics that compare group mean differences. The workshop will start with a basic discussion about research design and statistics that allow us to compare groups. After providing an overview, we will explore both descriptive and inferential statistics that allow us to explore group mean differences. The workshop will utilize a case study approach so that participants can explore data and gain experience in interpreting the results of statistical procedures. The case study will explore the application of three basic inferential statistical procedures that compare group mean difference -- Independent Groups t-tests, Repeated Measures t-tests, and one-way Independent Groups t-tests. The workshop will conclude with an overview of other more advanced statistical procedures

Intended Learning Outcomes
Workshop participants will be able to do the following at the conclusion of this workshop:

1.  Understand the use of research designs that compare group mean differences.
2.  Be able to use statistical software to calculate descriptive and inferential statistics that compare group mean differences.
3.  Understand the basic assumptions of inferential statistical procedures that compare group mean differences.
4.  Understand when to use various statistical procedures that compare group mean differences.
5.  Be able to interpret the findings from inferential statistical procedures that compare group mean differences.
