Presenter

Heather Kelly, University of Delaware

Prerequisites:
To participate in this workshop, an attendee will need to:

1. Have a desire to develop their leadership skills.
2. Have an open mind and a willingness to interact with others.

Description:
IR professionals at all levels need to be leaders and demonstrate skills that go beyond technical or professional expertise. The problem is the workload of IR professionals can be so overwhelming that there is hardly time to work on the soft skills that will help us become more effective and efficient at our jobs and quite possibly result in greater work/life satisfaction. While all IR professionals might not have managerial responsibilities, all IR professionals can be leaders. For this reason, this workshop will focus on developing the skills that are unique to leaders such as authenticity, coaching, creativity, and emotional intelligence. You will have the opportunity to test drive these concepts as you add them to your leadership toolbox via a series of hands-on activities.

Intended Learning Outcomes:
Participants in this workshop will:

1. Understand the core concepts related to four key leadership skills (authenticity, coaching, creativity, and emotional intelligence).
2. See these concepts in action.
3. Work with a variety of hands-on activities to practice these concepts.
4. Leave with knowledge and tools to further develop these skills.
